Here is what you need to know.

Stocks avoid their worst month since the financial crisis. The S&P 500 gained 1.08% on Wednesday to finish October with a loss of 6.94% — its biggest monthly decline since 2011. It would have needed to finish the month down by at least 8.2%, as it was entering Wednesday, to suffer its biggest monthly drop since the financial crisis.

The UK and the EU have agreed on a 'tentative' deal for financial services. The deal would allow the UK "continued access to European markets" after Britain leaves the European Union, securing the post-Brexit future for the City of London, according to The Times.

Sydney home prices just fell at their fastest annual pace in almost 29 years. Home prices in the Australian city fell for a 13th consecutive month in September and were down 7.4% year-over-year, making for their steepest annual drop since February 1990.

The Bank of England meets. The central bank is expected to hold its key interest rate at 0.75% at the conclusion Thursday's policy meeting.

Goldman Sachs says one big fear is troubling investors. The stock market appears to have stabilized, but Goldman Sachs says there's still plenty of fear in the market if you look at it on a single-stock basis.

Google employees are staging a walkout on Thursday. Google employees around the world plan to leave their desks at 11 a.m. to protest the company's handling of sexual-misconduct allegations.

The owner of MoviePass is delaying a shareholder vote on its reverse-split plan. In a sign of shareholder pushback, Helios and Matheson, the parent company 0f MoviePass, announced it was delaying by two weeks the vote on its plan to dramatically reduce its number of shares outstanding to boost its stock price.

Denny's soars after saying it will sell company-operated stores to franchisees. Shares surged 25% Wednesday after the restaurant chain said it intended to sell 90 to 125 company-operated restaurants in the next 18 months to make it a purer franchised brand.

Earnings reporting rolls on. DowDuPont and Spotify report ahead of the opening bell, while Apple, Shake Shack, and US Steel release their quarterly results after markets close.

US economic data is heavy. Challenger Job Cuts will be released at 7:30 a.m. ET before nonfarm productivity and initial claims cross the wires at 8:30 a.m. ET. Then, at 9:45 a.m. ET, Markit manufacturing PMI is released. Data concludes at 10 a.m. ET with construction spending and ISM manufacturing. The US 10-year yield is up 2 basis points at 3.16%.

US Hispanics over-index non-Hispanic Whites in usage and engagement with social media. More than three-quarters (77%) of US Hispanics say they've used social sites in the past 30 days. That's compared with 38% of non-Hispanic Whites who spend over an hour with social media daily.

The most popular platforms among US Hispanics revolve around communication (e.g. Facebook), images (e.g. Instagram), and video (e.g. YouTube). In the last 30 days, 66% of US Hispanics aged 18 and older have used Facebook (over-indexing non-Hispanic Whites by 5%).

US Hispanics are active participants on social platforms, rather than passive consumers. The demographic group shares content on social platforms five times more often than do non-Hispanic Whites.

Here are a few additional consumption insights:
  • Because the US Hispanic market is relatively young, its ROI will only improve over time.
  • Advertisers should look to mobile to reach the growing group. US Hispanics will have accounted for more than half of all population growth in the US between 2016 and 2020 — and up to 80% of all growth by 2040-45.

Good morning! This is the tech news you need to know this Thursday.

  1. Business Insider ran 2 fake ads pretending to be Cambridge Analytica — and Facebook failed to catch that they were frauds. Facebook's new political ad transparency tools allowed Business Insider to run adverts as being "paid for" by Cambridge Analytica, the political consultancy that dragged Facebook into a major data scandal this year.
  2. Sundar Pichai emailed Google staff saying he was 'deeply sorry' for the firm's record on sexual misconduct. The email came after news emerged that Google employees were planning a walkout to protest the company's handling of the sexual-misconduct allegations.
  3. Twitter is testing a toggle to let users easily switch between a chronological and an algorithmic timeline. Only a small number of iOS users can test the feature at the moment.
  4. Apple offered to buy augmented-reality startup Leap Motion multiple times, but people familiar with the matter told Business Insider that negotiations fell through. Insiders said the figure discussed was between $30 million and $50 million, a fraction of the company's Series B valuation of $306 million.
  5. Group video calls on FaceTime are finally here, but you may be left out if you have an older Apple device. FaceTime can now support video chats for up to 32 participants, thanks to the iOS 12.1 update that was released earlier this week.
  6. Online scammers are bombarding young 'Fortnite' players with fake offers for free v-bucks, the game's digital currency. More than 4,700 websites are fraudulently offering free v-bucks as a front for phishing and information collection.
  7. Elon Musk said Tesla vehicles will be able to find open parking spots without driver assistance by next year. While the AutoPark feature identifies possible parking spots for drivers to choose, Musk suggested that it will eventually be able to both find and choose a parking spot without driver assistance.
  8. Lime recalled thousands of scooters after reports of some catching fire. Lime has recalled 2,000 electric scooters in three US cities, it said Wednesday.
  9. Netflix is turning one of the world's most popular games into a TV show — and we just got a first look at its main character. "The Witcher" is coming to Netflix in 2019, with Henry Cavill playing the main character Geralt of Rivia.
  10. Waymo has become the first company that's allowed to test autonomous cars without a backup driver in California. Waymo received a permit from California's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) on Tuesday to test autonomous vehicles without human backup drivers on public roads, the DMV said in a statement.
