NFL QUARTERBACK POWER RANKINGS: Where all 32 starters stand going into Week 4 by Cork Gaines on Oct 1, 2015, 10:09 AM Advertisement
The NFL is just two weeks old but Aaron Rodgers, Andy Dalton, and Cam Newton are up while Andrew Luck and Colin Kaepernick are not. Using two different advanced stats and a fantasy football metric, we came up with a formula to rank all 32 NFL starters. The formula uses Football Outsiders' DYAR metric, ESPN's total QBR metric, and the percentage of teams that own each quarterback in ESPN's Fantasy Football game. Think of the latter as a job approval rating, an indication of how fans think of the quarterback's potential moving forward. In the case of injuries, we will continue to rank the injured starter unless he is out for the remainder of the season or there is doubt about their role once healthy. Here is how the 32 starters are ranked so far. 1. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers Team record: 3-0 DYAR rank: 2 QBR rank: 3 ESPN Fantasy Owned: 99.9% One thing to know: Not all the advanced stats loved Rodgers' 5-touchdown, 0-interception win, with Pro Football Focus giving it a slightly below-average grade. But the numbers used here liked it enough to vault Rodgers up to the new No. 1 from No. 3 last week.
2. Tom Brady, New England Patriots Team record: 3-0 DYAR rank: 1 QBR rank: 6 ESPN Fantasy Owned: 99.4% One thing to know: Brady repeats at the No. 2 spot with his biggest controversy now being whether or not he really supports Donald Trump.
3. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers Team record: 2-1 DYAR rank: 4 QBR rank: 1 ESPN Fantasy Owned: 93.1% One thing to know: Roethlisberger slips from No. 1 thanks in large part to suffering a knee injury that knocked him out of his past week's game. Luckily he avoided serious injury and will be back this season.
