Cable news networks are shattering ratings records

Cable news networks recorded their highest ratings in years during the first quarter of 2017 as President Donald Trump took office.

According to Nielsen Ratings released Tuesday, Fox News had its highest-rated quarter in history. Programs such as "Fox and Friends," "The O'Reilly Factor," and "Hannity" hit record-high ratings in the time slots they have historically dominated.

CNN also had its most-watched first quarter since 2003, when coverage in the lead up to the invasion of Iraq boosted the network's numbers.
