Nathan Myhrvold: Microsoft is one of few companies with 'true research' working on 'super hard problems'

by Business Insider on May 1, 2017, 5:02 PM

A former CTO of Microsoft, Nathan Myhrvold founded Microsoft's Research division in 1991, a team that now has legions of researchers working in labs all over the world.

Appearing on the latest episode of The Bottom Line with Henry Blodget, Myhrvold says Microsoft remains one of the few companies today with a true, independent research team working on 'super hard problems.'

Myhrvold, the founder and CEO of Intellectual Ventures, is a polymath himself — inventor, scientist, and principal author of the acclaimed Modernist Cuisine cookbooks, to name just a few of his pursuits.

First, we asked him how he identifies himself at cocktail parties. Then, he offered his take on the state of innovation today.
