A man from northern China shocked staff at a car dealership after he paid the deposit on a truck with over 60kg of coins each worth 0.08 US cents, according to a newspaper report.

It took five staff at the showroom in Zhoukou in Henan province 3½ hours to count the money in 0.50 yuan coins, the Dahe Daily said.

The buyer, whose full name was not given, works in the logistics industry.

He was quoted as saying he received the 8,100 yuan in coins in payment for an overseas delivery.

The cash is equivalent to about HK$9,700 or US$1,250. The truck he bought cost about 200,000 yuan.

A woman from Henan province made the headlines in April after she made a part payment for a new BMW 730Li for 100,000 yuan in 1 yuan notes.

It took 20 employees six hours to count the money, according to a news website.

The woman runs a food business and said people often paid her using small denomination bills.
