Within a week, British forces struck back at the nationalists, executing many of them. This eventually galvanized the Irish people behind the cause of their independence, and which later led to the war of Irish independence in 1919. Flash forward to Easter Sunday in 2016, when the streets of Dublin are lined with free Irish enjoying a parade to mark the centenary of a pivotal moment in their history.  In the slides below, see how the Irish are celebrating their nation's history on Easter Sunday.
