OtterBox DEFENDER SERIES Case

There are very few iPhone accessories as important as a case. Making a $20 investment now can save you from spending hundreds of dollars getting your phone replaced, or having to wait until your next upgrade to get one that works properly.

But figuring out which phone case is right for you can depend on a few things: how much money you want to spend, whether you want your phone to feel light in your pocket, or if you want a case that's stylish. Our iPhone accessories guide is loaded with good choices, and you can find my personal recommendation here, but I've also rounded up the 10 most popular basic iPhone cases according to Amazon shoppers below.

The list covers a lot of ground; on the super protective side of the spectrum is OtterBox's Defender Series case, which nearly doubles the weight of an iPhone X, but has multiple pieces that fit together to reduce the chances of damage from tall drops.

On the other side of the spectrum is Torras' Soft Cover Case, which will only protect your iPhone from scratches, but is thin and light enough that you won't notice a difference in your pocket.

The other eight cases fall somewhere in between those two on that spectrum, but all of them have their own set of strengths and weaknesses, which I've listed below. There are also case options for the iPhone 7/8, iPhone 7 Plus/8 Plus, and X, when versions of the same case were available for each.

If your current case is looking a little long in the tooth, or you haven't been using one at all, the 10 below can keep your phone free from scratches, dents, and other damage.

Matone Crystal Clear Shock Absorption Bumper

Matone Crystal Clear Shock Absorption Bumper, available for the iPhone 7/8, 7 Plus / 8 Plus, and X from $6.99

Amazon rating: 4.5 out of 360+ reviews

Matone's thin, clear case is perfect for people who want to protect their iPhone from scratches, but don't want make it feel too big or bulky. The case covers the back and sides of the phone, with indentations for its volume and power buttons.

The plastic material Matone's case is made out of can absorb some of the impact if your phone falls, and the corners are reinforced for extra protection. It also has a raised lip so the front of your phone wont make direct contact with the floor if it falls screen-side down.

Spigen Ultra Hybrid iPhone Case

Spigen Ultra Hybrid iPhone Case, available for the iPhone 7/8, iPhone 7 Plus/8 Plus, and X, from $11.97

Amazon rating: 3.8 out of 800+ reviews

Spigen Ultra Hybrid iPhone Case has two parts: a plastic bumper that protects the sides of your phone, and a hard plastic back to keep it from getting scratched. The front of the case is a little taller than the iPhone to offer some protection if yours falls screen-side down.

Tribe Water Resistant Cell Phone Armband

Tribe Water Resistant Cell Phone Armband, available for the iPhone 7/8 and X $9.98, and iPhone 7/8 Plus

Amazon rating: 4.3 out of 16,000+ reviews

Tribe's armband is an iPhone case for people who exercise. The band keeps your iPhone in place while you work out, so you can keep it safe without leaving it in your pocket. This is the case I use when I exercise, and it's excellent.

The band doesn't slide off my arm when I run, and its neoprene and polyester materials feel soft on my skin. My favorite feature is the band's key slot, which keeps my house key safe as I run. Between this armband and my AirPods, I can go for a run without keeping anything in my pockets.
