Globally, 43% of consumers say they shop online because it's cheaper than shopping in stores, according to a PricewaterhouseCoopers survey. But shoppers from some countries are more price-sensitive than others. - Consumers from Chile, Turkey, Singapore, and Brazil are the most price-sensitive, according to the survey. More than half of the shoppers in those countries say low prices is what drives them to shop online.
- Shoppers from South Africa, Switzerland, and the United States are the least price-sensitive. Less than one-third of consumers in those countries say they shop online for the low prices.
Retailers that compete mostly on price should appeal to cost-conscious shoppers abroad. In countries where shoppers are less concerned with finding the best deal, retailers might benefit more from focusing on convenience and service.
