An incredibly helpful Google Maps feature is coming to the iPhone

by Lisa Eadicicco on Feb 29, 2016, 3:28 PM

Google wants to make it easier for travelers to take detours during road trips by bringing its Pit Stop feature for Google Maps to the iPhone.

The feature, which allows users to add stops to their route when navigating to a destination, is coming to the iPhone after it debuted on Android in October.

Before Pit Stop, Google Maps would take a user out of navigation mode if he or she tried to search for place like a gas station or a restaurant during a trip. Pit Stop is designed to make it easier to find those types of locations while also providing directions and traffic updates.

To access Pit Stop, users can tap the magnifying glass that appears in the top right corner of Google Maps’ screen during a driving trip. This will pull up a list of suggested areas, such as grocery stores, coffee shops, or gas stations. If the driver or passenger doesn’t want any of those options, he or she can also search for a spot and add it to their route.

This comes after Google has made other minor improvements to Maps, such as broadening the features available in offline mode and adding the ability to predict a user’s destination before it’s been entered in the app.
