Gary Cohn is sticking around the White House — at least for another week.
In an interview with CNBC following the release of the US jobs report, Cohn said he has no immediate plans to depart his post as the National Economic Council director. "I'm here today, and I'm here next week," Cohn said. In a separate interview with Bloomberg TV, Cohn dodged the question entirely. "Look, there's a lot ot be done on the economic agenda," Cohn told Bloomberg's Jonathan Ferro. "President Trump has a very strong view on how we can drive this economy, and I'm happy to be proud of his economic plan." When asked if that meant he was sticking around, Cohn only repeated that he was "happy to be part" of Trump's economic agenda. The White House is expected to debut a plan for a massive infrastructure investment in the coming weeks, and Cohn talked up prospects for the plan over the past two months. The caginess comes as rumors run rampant about Cohn's job status, which has appeared up in the air multiple times over Trump's first year in office. Cohn admitted that he was close to the exits after Trump's August reaction to the racial violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, that appeared to equivocate white supremacists with counterprotesters. While Cohn ultimately stayed, reports indicated he was eyeing a departure after Republicans passed their massive tax overhaul. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters Thursday that she was not aware of any upcoming personnel changes and Cohn was "committed to being here."
