The future of Amazon's Alexa is visual

Amazon's striving to make visually aided voice experiences available on consumers' screen-enabled Alexa devices.

The company introduced a new design language for developers called Alexa Presentations Language (APL), enabling them to craft Alexa voice skills that adopt visual elements such as GIFs, images, videos, and slideshows.

The new design language will be available for skills on Amazon's Echo lineup, Fire TVs, and select Fire Tablet devices next month.

The APL will also be available for third-party devices built with Alexa Smart Screen and TV SDK, which lets third-party manufacturers integrate the Alexa voice assistant along with Echo Show-like visual experiences.
