The CEO of one of America's largest mall operators says malls are turning into fulfillment centers and that they need to transform their 'lazy a-- business' if they want to survive
Mall operators like Lou Conforti, the CEO of Washington Prime Group, are increasingly looking to dark stores, or locations dedicated exclusively to fulfilling online orders.
Earlier this year, Washington Prime introduced an initiative called 'fulventory,' which
allows existing tenants to pay a lower rental rate to use additional space as a fulfillment or pickup and returns center
.
Dark stores and fulventory are part of Conforti's plan to revitalize what's historically been a "lazy a-- business," he told Business Insider.
