Kobe Bryant is once again the NBA's highest-paid player.

Bryant, in his 20th NBA season, will make $25 million this season. But this will almost certainly be his last season on top of the rankings, as his contract is up next summer. And even if he continues to play, he will have to take a steep pay cut.

The players aiming to take Bryant's spot next season include the game's biggest names.

Here are this season's 25 highest-paid players in the NBA and how their contracts break down, with data provided by Spotrac.

#1 Kobe Bryant — $25 million

TeamLos Angeles Lakers

And yet Bryant has never said this and Phil Jackson doesn't think Kobe is ready to retire. But will the Lakers want him back? Some think the team should play hard ball with Kobe if he decides to keep playing.

Position: Shooting Guard

Contract: 6 years, $123.7 million

One thing to know: Johnson has made $173.8 million in his career, making him one of the 25 highest-paid NBA players of all time.

Chipotle closes 43 stores in Seattle and Oregon over an E. coli scare

by Phuong Le on Oct 31, 2015, 4:48 PM

SEATTLE (AP) -- An investigation was underway Saturday in an E. coli outbreak linked to Chipotle restaurants in Washington state and Oregon, health officials said.

Three people in the Portland area and 19 people in Washington became sick after eating at the Mexican food chain since Oct. 14, the Oregon Health Authority said.

No deaths have been reported and eight people have been hospitalized.

"While the outbreak appears to be linked to food served at Chipotle restaurants, the food or other source of contamination hasn't yet been determined and remains under investigation," the Washington Department of Health said in a statement.

Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. spokesman Chris Arnold said the safety and wellbeing of customers is always its highest priority.

He said Chipotle was notified by health officials that they were investigating E. coli cases that included people who became sick after eating at six restaurants.

"We immediately closed all of our restaurants in the area out of an abundance of caution, even though the vast majority of these restaurants have no reported problems," Arnold said in a statement.

The company said 43 Chipotle sites have been closed in the two states.

Chipotle will work with health officials to determine when to reopen the restaurants and to find the cause of the problem, Arnold said.

Jonathan Modie, a spokesman with the Oregon Health Authority, said many people may not see a doctor after becoming ill, so the number of people sickened in the outbreak is likely higher. People who become sick with vomiting and bloody diarrhea, and who ate at a Chipotle between Oct. 14 and 23 should see their health care provider, officials said.

People have reported symptoms of infection in Clackamas and Washington counties in Oregon, and Clark, King, Skagit and Cowlitz counties in Washington, Modie said.

There are hundreds of E. coli and similar bacteria strains in the intestines of humans. Most are harmless, but a few can cause serious problems.

Symptoms of E. coli infection include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting. Health officials say the best defense against the bacterial illness is to thoroughly wash hands with soap and water.

Newly declassified cockpit footage of the intense moment when USAF F-14s shot down two Migs over Libya

by Dario Leone on Oct 31, 2015, 4:34 PM

After two F-14As from VF-41 Black Aces shot down two Su-22 Fitters on Aug. 19, 1981, the Tomcat faced again LARAF (Libyan Arab Republic Air Force) fighters on Jan. 4, 1989, when two jets from VF-32 Swordsmen shot down a pair of MiG-23 Floggers.

In the following video you can see, for the very first time, several images of that dogfight, including previously unreleased footage.

cockpit camera f-14 shoots down mig over libya

The air-to-air combat occurred during a freedom of navigation exercise conducted by Sixth Fleet off the Libyan coastline.

The two VF-32 F-14s, BuNo. 159610, call sign "Gypsy 207" flown by Swordsmen skipper Commander Joseph B. Connelly and by Commander Leo F. Enwright as Radar Intercept Officer (RIO) and BuNo. 159437, call sign "Gypsy 202″ crewed by Lieutenant Hermon C. Cook III and Lieutenant Commander Steven P. Collins as RIO, were flying Combat Air Patrol (CAP)from USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67), when an E-2C detected the two MiGs taking off from Bumbah air base.

The Floggers, heading towards the U.S. Navy jets, were picked by the F-14s' AN/AWG-9 radar at a distance of 72 miles.

As proved by the radio communications between the aircrews involved in the engagement, the VF-32 fighters performed avoidance maneuvers for five times to avoid confrontation, but the LARAF aircraft matched their turns every time.

Then at 6 minutes and 27 seconds in the footage, at a range of 12.9 miles you can hear Gypsy 207 calling for a "Fox One" shot, meaning that he has just fired a Sparrow which, probably because of a guidance problem, misssed the target. The F-14s and MiGs continued to move closer until, at 6 minutes and 37 seconds in the video, Gypsy 202 fired another Sparrow at a distance of about ten miles against the same Flogger, destroying it.

At 7 minutes and 21 seconds the clip shows that, with the remaining Flogger now in their eyeballs, Connelly and Enwright took advantage of their action to get back of the MiG-23 calling for a "Fox Two" shot  (referring to the launch of a Sidewinder) at 7 minutes and 36 seconds. Noteworthy at 7 minutes and 44 seconds the missile hit the second Flogger downing it.

The two Libyan pilots managed to eject at the last minute ending the engagement.

Here you find the full story of the aerial combat.

Businesses are making billions off this rare personality type

by Jessica Orwig on Oct 31, 2015, 4:34 PM

the ring nightmare scary horrorFear is not just an emotional response — it's a business. And, right now, business is booming.

Clever entrepreneurs have learned how to capitalize on a bizarre trait that some of us possess, — getting a kick out of being scared spitless.

An estimated 157 million Americans plan to celebrate Halloween this year and spend $6.9 billion on everything from candy and costumes to the spookiest scream-fest they can find.

Those of us who are seeking screams this Halloween have a rare kind of personality that Frank Farley, who is a psychologist at Temple University, calls  "type T" or "Big T" (thrill-seeking) personality.

"The 'Big T' personality anchors one end of a continuum; at the other end is the opposite 'Little t' personality, who avoids risks and unfamiliar places and people," author William C. Cockerham explained in his book "Society of Risk-Takers: Living Life on the Edge."

Farley found that those with “Big T” personalities also tend to be more creative, extroverted, and risk-oriented, than most others.

Since most of us fall somewhere between the two ends of this continuum, Farley thinks “Big T” and “Little t” personalities are relatively rare.

Why some of us seek screams

According to studies, only about 10% of the population classify as “Big T”, Margarita Tartakovsky reported for PsychCentral.com.

ariana grande scream queensHowever, why these 10% revel in fear is not necessarily the same.

Some seek the adrenaline rush while others tolerate the thrills and chills for the aftermath — the satisfaction that results from overcoming a threat or obstacle.

Interestingly, Farley discovered that most “Big T” personalities fall under a specific demographic: males between 16 and 24 years old.

It could be that many males of this age have low levels of the feel-good hormone dopamine and, therefore, must go to extremes to release enough to feel any type of stimulation, according to a theory proposed by psychologist Marvin Zuckerman at the University of Delaware.

What personality type are you?

Zuckerman’s research has found that extreme thrill-seekers tend have a number of traits in common: they are typically impulsive, highly social, and uninhibited, Cockerham wrote in his book.

Patrick Bateman, American Psycho Moreover, these personality types often seek out people similar to themselves. Therefore, their friends and spouses will likely have the need for fear, as well.

Sometimes, the need for extremes is so high, that "Big T" personalities will turn to crime because it's the only thing that gives them enough of a rush.

Christian Bales' character in the film "American Psycho" is a perfect example of someone who performs severely criminal acts for entertainment because without them he's bored out of his mind.

So, do you think you’re one of the 10%?

You can find out for yourself. Zuckerman created the "Sensation Seek Scale," which is a quiz that he uses to study different personality types.

You can take the test yourself here.

Minimize your everyday carry with this leather iPhone 6s wallet case

verus leather wallet iphone caseIf you’re one of the millions who've spent hundreds on a new iPhone recently, you can rest assured that you’ve got yourself a good-looking gadget. Nice job.

If you’re investing $650 on something made to be carried around everywhere, though, you probably want to keep it safe. That means buying a case, which unfortunately means covering up the fine craftsmanship of your new device. Most of the time, at least.

However, there’s a handful of iPhone cases that keep Apple’s flagship looking stylish, albeit in a different way. We think the Verus Layered Dandy is one of them. It’s a folio case, made from a mature piece of leather that isn’t quite genuine, but feels soft and smooth all the same. It wraps firmly around your iPhone 6 or 6s, with enough well-sized cutouts to prevent using your phone from turning into a hassle.

It’s also practical, since the inside of its cover holds a trio of card slots, as well as a pocket for holding a few bills. Those are little stiff at first, but they become as convenient as any other wallet case once you wear the whole thing in.

Perhaps best of all, now at $19, the Layered Dandy is affordable. By comparison, Apple’s Leather Case feels a bit better, but doesn’t double as a wallet, and costs $45. This model’s received great feedback on Amazon over the last year, with a 4.4 rating after nearly 1,100 user reviews. Given its blend of good looks, protection, and usefulness, it’s not hard to see why.

Verus Layered Dandy Wallet Case for iPhone 6/6s (Brown), $18.99, available at Amazon.
