Norv Turner has resigned as offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings. ESPN's Adam Schefter first broke the news on Wednesday morning, and the team confirmed it on Twitter shortly thereafter.

It's a completely unexpected move. Turner had served as the OC in Minnesota since 2014, and this season the Vikings are 5-2 without Teddy Bridgewater and Adrian Peterson.

The Vikings are coming off two consecutive losses, though, and as ESPN Stats & Info noted, the team's offense has been completely flat all season long.

Pat Shurmur will serve as the interim offensive coordinator. Turner's son Scott, meanwhile, remains the Vikings' quarterback coach.

The Vikings are currently in first place in the NFC North. The offensive coordinator of a division-leading team doesn't typically resign in the middle of a season.
