Our Apologies

Due to a security breach, you may have received a strange email from us yesterday.

Dear Business Insider newsletter subscribers,

Yesterday you may have received a strange email from us as a result of a security breach on our systems. We wanted to let you know the status update...

A group called "Ourmines" gained access to an account on our system that they were able to use to publish a post. They also sent that post as an alert to our app users and as the email you received. This group typically creates "digital graffiti" to note their success but that appears to have been the extent of the harm done. No user data was stolen, as best we can tell, nor was any malware installed on our servers. In short, we can confidently issue an "all clear" at this point.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate those of you who alerted us to the problem. Rest assured we're equipping ourselves to prevent similar problems in future.

Thanks for reading.
