  • White House communications director Hope Hicks acknowledged that she has told "white lies" on behalf of President Donald Trump.
  • Hicks made those comments during a Tuesday interview with lawmakers on the House Intelligence Committee, CNN and The New York Times reported.
  • Citing their own unnamed sources, both news outlets said Hicks insisted that she has not lied about matters related to the Russia investigation.

White House communications director Hope Hicks admitted to telling "white lies" on behalf of Donald Trump, on some occasions.

Hicks, who appeared before US lawmakers on the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, insisted that she had not told falsehoods in her comments about the Russia investigation or the possible involvement of Trump campaign officials in Russia's 2016 US-election meddling.

CNN and The New York Times both reported Hicks' remarks on Tuesday night, citing their own unnamed sources.

Hicks' testimony to the House committee stretched on for more than eight hours, but she largely sidestepped lawmakers' questions, spurring protests from some on the committee who likened Hicks' testimony to that of Steve Bannon, the former White House chief strategist who stonewalled officials during his own appearance before the panel in January.

Hick had been under the microscope in early February when it was revealed that she may have participated in drafting a White House statement defending the former staff secretary, Rob Porter, who eventually resigned over multiple allegations of domestic abuse.
