Oktoberfest

  • As we move into autumn, the annual Oktoberfest festival is getting closer.
  • While it may be too late to book an (affordable) last-minute trip to the original Oktoberfest in Munich, there are plenty of incredible Oktoberfests celebrated within the United States.
  • Here are five of the most famous American Oktoberfests, and some great options for where to stay.

The weather may still be warm across much of the northern hemisphere, but even so, the fall season is well underway. Pumpkin spice lattes are in every Starbucks you can find, while Halloween decorations are popping up on store shelves. Plus, the annual rite of Oktoberfest is about to get underway.

The original Oktoberfest takes place in Munich, Germany from September 22 through October 7. Considering how infamous and popular the festival is, it's likely too late to book a reasonably priced trip there now, although you might get lucky and find some last-minute flight deals — try searching CheapOair or Momondo.

Fortunately, you can still enjoy an Oktoberfest trip without having to travel all the way to Germany. That's because some of the best Oktoberfests are celebrated in the United States.

If you're heading to one of the beer festivals and want to save a bit on a last-minute trip, consider avoiding a traditional hotel and staying in a condo or home rental through Airbnb or HomeAway.

HomeAway has picked out a number of entire properties, ranging from basic condos to luxury homes, which are still available for American Oktoberfest festivals. From Cincinnati to Boston, here are some of the best Oktoberfests you can celebrate, and the HomeAway rentals you can use to stay close to the action.
