After unexpected social media usage increases in 2020, this year is settling into a more typical pattern for most platforms

The pandemic and the accompanying disruption to everyday life led to unexpected gains in social media usage in 2020. The total number of monthly social network users in the US rose by 7.6 million, or 3.7%, to reach 212.9 million by year-end.

Even though many of the pandemic's effects on everyday life lingered well into 2021, growth in social network usage is slowing. We forecast there will be just 3.4 million new social users in 2021, a 1.6% increase.
