Apple's $5 billion 'Campus 2' is really starting to take shape

Apple is still on track to move into its new "Campus 2" in Cupertino, California, early next year.

With the move-in date getting closer, construction on the $5 billion "spaceship" building has picked up quite a bit in recent weeks.

On Tuesday, Matthew Roberts posted a fantastic new Campus 2 flyover video, taken with a DJI Phantom 3 drone.

Most of the construction has now been finished, and some buildings are receiving final touches — for example, the underground auditorium now has had its roof installed, and workers are prepping to install the rest of the giant solar panels on the building.

Here's what to look for in the latest pictures of the building and surrounding campus, which former Apple CEO Steve Jobs once said had a chance to be the "best office building in the world."

In this screenshot, you can see that Apple has started to install solar panels on its roof. All of those light-blue colored panels are solar panels (still covered with protective wrap.) The roof will be nearly completely covered in solar panels when it's done.

A closer look at the roof.

Another look at how huge the solar panels Apple's using are.
