  • Chicago Bears tight end Zach Miller underwent emergency surgery to "save his leg" after a gruesome injury on Sunday.
  • Miller suffered the injury on a deep catch in the end zone that referees later overturned.
  • Bears coach John Fox said that while speaking to Miller on the phone after surgery, Miller immediately wanted to talk about his overturned touchdown.

Chicago Bears tight end Zach Miller underwent emergency surgery to repair a torn tendon in his knee and "save" his leg after a gruesome injury on Sunday.

In the third quarter of the Bears' Week 8 loss to the New Orleans Saints, Miller went for a deep catch in the end zone and landed awkwardly on his leg. He was later carted off the field.

Literally adding insult to injury, referees then reviewed the play and ruled he didn't make the catch, taking away the touchdown.

On Monday, Bears coach John Fox updated Miller's status, saying he was doing better, noting he had feeling in his foot again, but is not "out of the woods" yet. He also said that when he called Miller's wife after the surgery, Miller got on the phone and began talking about the overturned touchdown.

"He pretty much wanted his touchdown back," Fox said., adding, "Typical Zach, he was arguing about catch/no catch. Very supportive of the team, very unselfish but that’s just him. Very genuine, very real. He was basically telling us to hang in there, but that’s the type of person he is and the kind of teammate he is."

Miller, 33, is done for the year and may be done playing football for life. But according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the surgery was a successful one from a "life" standpoint.
