Despite being a latecomer to the Electric Vehicles (EVs) space, Ford recently secured the number two spot behind Tesla, by diversifying its EV model offerings and investing in charging and telematics. Its electrification efforts appear to be paying off, as Ford's EV sales in January grew almost four times faster than the overall electrified segment, according to Ford President Jim Farley.
Looking ahead, "All-electric pickup trucks have a unique growth opportunity to boost EV adoption into the mainstream," said Gadjo Sevilla, analyst at Insider Intelligence. Customers have expressed excitement for pickup models such as the F-150 Lightning, which is set to ship in September 2022. As this segment could be EVs' next big area of growth, "Ford has the first-mover advantage in making electric pickups available," added Sevilla. | |
