In an Insider Intelligence Q2 2021 digital trust survey, we polled 1,730 US social media users on which factors most affect their trust on nine major social media platforms—Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Reddit, Snapchat, TikTok, Twitter, and YouTube—and how those elements impact their decision to interact with content on these channels.
For example, users felt that privacy and data protection, a lack of deceptive content, and providing a safe environment, were either extremely or very impactful on their decision to engage with ads or sponsored content on a social platform, per Insider Intelligence's Digital Trust Benchmark Report 2021.
While trust concerns have not always been top-of-mind for advertisers when considering their social ad spending, our study suggests that advertisers may want to prioritize data privacy in both their own internal policies and in their advertising decisions. | |
